Dhaka, Aug 10 (BDNEWS) – The High Court (HC) Thursday granted ad-interim bail to four trustees and the Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) in a defamation case filed by the Energy Advisor.
The HC also asked the government to show cause as to why they should not be granted regular bail.
The HC bench comprising Justice Md Abdur Rashid and Justice Miftahuddin Chowdhury passed the order after hearing a bail petition.
Energy Advisor and Board of Investment executive Chairman Mahmudur Rahman Wednesday filed the case against CPD chairman Prof Rehman Sobhan, its trustees M Sayeduzzaman, Syed Manjur Elahi and Laila Kabir, and executive director Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya.
Dr M Zahir, Barrister Moinul Hosein and Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud moved the bail petition before the court.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mojibul Haque issued arrest warrants against the five high-ups of CPD, a local think-tank, on the same day.
In his complaint, Mahmudur Raman alleged that the accused persons tarnished his image by calling him Rajakar, collaborator of Pakistani occupation forces.
