Netrokona, Sept 26 (bdnews24.com) – Former Awami League lawmaker from Netrokona-2 constituency Fazlur Rahman Khan died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital at 11am Friday. He was 80.
He had been suffering from old-age complications for long. He left behind one son and four daughters.
Rahman was elected first vice president of Netrokona Government College students union in 1951. He was the president of district Awami League for 26 years from 1977 to 2003.
He was elected lawmaker to Netrokona-2 seat in 1973, 1986 and 1996.
He also participated in the 1952 language movement, six-point movement and 1990 Anti-autocracy movement. He went to jail several times for political reason.
A pall of gloom descended over the district Awami League supporters as the news of his death spread.
Awami League central leaders Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Ashim Kumar Ukil, Abdul Matin Khasru, district AL president Shamsuzzoha, secretary Ashraf Ali Khan Khosru, Noor Khan and other leaders went to the hospital to pay their respects.
