Dhaka, Nov 6 (bdnews24.com) – The Chief Election Commissioner MA Aziz
Monday chaired an inter-ministerial meeting to discuss the issue of providing facilities to foreign observers.
Election commissioners Mahmudur Rahman, SM Jakaria and Mahmud Hasan Monsur, Home Secretary Zahirul Islam, Information Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the foreign ministry Masud-bin-Momen and Secretary of the commission Abdur Rashid Sarkar attended the meeting at the Election Commission secretariat.
"The meeting discussed the facilities to be provided to the foreign observers who would come here to observe the general election," Islam, the home secretary, told journalists after the meeting.
He added the foreign observers would have to fill a form on the EC web site and get visas to watch the elections in Bangladesh.
He said there is no limit to the number of observers.
"The issue of the security of the observers was not discussed at the meeting. We will discuss it at another meeting later," the home secretary said.
"Some changes have been brought to the guideline of the foreign observers. One thing included in the guideline is that Bangladeshis who would accompany the foreign observers should have to be neutral," the EC Secretary told newsmen.
