The Anti-Corruption Commission leveled the charges against the ruling party's organizing secretary ten years ago, when the army-backed caretaker government was in office.
During the 2007-08 emergency regime, similar cases were filed against several politicians and businessmen, many of which were later dropped as they were deemed as 'politically motivated.'

"The prosecution has failed to prove the charges beyond doubt," Judge KM Imrul Kayes said in his verdict.
Nasim, an MP from Madaripur, told the media, "This is a petty case…the court acquitted me of the charges as it found nothing."
