Gaibandha, May 8 (BDNEWS) – The local administration is now ready to hold the May 9 by-election to Gaibandha-4 constituency peacefully.
The ruling alliance nominee Shamim Kaisar Lincoln, Lutfar Rahman Chowdhury of Jatiya party (Ershad), the incumbent municipality chairman Abul Kalam Azad under the banner of Nagorik Committee and independent candidates Atoar Rahman (Belal), Dulal Uddin and Krishak Mohammad Sadek will vie at the Gobindaganj Upazila by-election.
Some 2 lakh 94 thousand 2 hundred and 27 voters of 17 unions and one municipality will cast their ballots in the 102 polling centres with 155 magistrates, 2 thousand 8 hundred 45 police, armed police, Ansars and VDP officials remaining deployed.
Besides 170 army personnel and 170 BDR personnel will be on duty.
To ensure security one magistrate and 26 police officials, 16 of them armed, have been deployed at every pocket centres.
However, extra contingent of armed police will be deployed at the vulnerable and very risky centres.
Earlier, 55 centres were marked as vulnerable while 15 got 'very risky' label.
A mobile team comprising eight military courts and army personnel, 51 striking forces of BDR, armed police will monitor the poll round the clock.
