Fakhrul decries protests as unjustified pressure during discussions

Several Islamist parties, including Jamaat, have staged protests in Dhaka demanding different reforms, including PR elections

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has condemned the ongoing protests by Islamist parties, including the Jamaat-e-Islami, as "unnecessary pressure" during critical discussions.

Fakhrul returned from Singapore and spoke at the Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday.

“We do not need these protests as discussions are still ongoing. Protests during talks only create unnecessary pressure,” he said

Fakhrul added that such actions are not conducive to democracy or decision-making, as they hinder constructive dialogue.

Several Islamist parties, including Jamaat, staged protests in Dhaka on Thursday, demanding a PR-based national election, full implementation of the July Charter, visible justice, and a ban on the Jatiya Party and 14-Party Alliance activities.

Protests are also planned in divisions and districts over the next two days.
