A commemorative event has been held in Dhaka to mark the 101st birth anniversary of Samson H Chowdhury, the late founder chairman of SQUARE Group.
The event was held at SFBL Arena on Madani Avenue, where a special collection of memoirs titled Samson H Chowdhury: Stories of Uncompromising Integrity was unveiled, the group said in a statement.
The publication brings together personal reflections and accounts from eminent personalities, business leaders and close family associates who worked closely with Chowdhury, highlighting his life, career and principles.
Tapan Chowdhury, managing director of SQUARE Pharmaceuticals PLC, delivered the keynote speech.
On behalf of the family, Sanchia Chowdhury, director of SQUARE Fashions Ltd, shared her reflections, while Mahbubur Rahman, president of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh, recalled his memories of Samson H Chowdhury.
A short excerpt from the documentary Samson: Through a Son's Lens, produced to mark Chowdhury's birth centenary, was also screened at the ceremony.
Marking his birth centenary, the Anita-Samson Foundation and the SQUARE family had also launched several social welfare initiatives.
Among the ongoing initiatives are the nationwide mobile healthcare programme Chhappanno Hazaar Square Mile Jure, educational support for underprivileged children, free eye-care camps for garment workers, assistance to young female footballers in Kolsindur, and a joint project with BRAC and Pabna Municipality on modern waste management in Pabna.
