The Universal Academy has published the book, ‘Begum Khaleda Zia: Her Life, Her Story’, by Mahfuz Ullah. The 718-page book is priced at Tk 2,000.
“It’s been named ‘Her Life, Her Story’ because Khaleda Zia is the people’s politician,” Mahfuz Ullah said at the launch at a city hotel on Sunday.
“Khaleda Zia has been serving the country and its people since she had been widowed. She is standing as a lighthouse to the people of Bangladesh,” he added.

Former ambassador M Anwar Hashim, New Age Editor Nurul Kabir, columnist Iftedar Ahmed, Dhaka University’s Professor Laila Noor Islam and Prof Asif Nazrul discussed the book at the event.
BNP-leaning public health activist Zafrullah Chowdhury, Prof Mahbub Ullah, Prof AZM Zahid Hossain, Ismail Jabiullah, Syed Kamaluddin, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, Prof AFM Yusuf Haider, and Mustafizur Rahman Iran, among others, were present.
Khaleda, the wife of late president Ziaur Rahman, joined politics in the beginning of the 1980s after the killing of the former army chief.
Political analysts believe the BNP, which was founded by military ruler Zia in cantonment, gained popularity under the leadership of Khaleda.
After the ouster of HM Ershad, Khaleda won the 1991 elections to become the first female prime minister of Bangladesh.
She was jailed for total 17 years in two corruption cases earlier this year.
The release of the book came days after the premiere of a documentary drama film with untold stories of her archrival Sheikh Hasina’s life.
