A group of men has stormed a polling booth in Mymensingh-11 and stamped ballot papers, with video of the breach circulating widely on social media.

The incident unfolded at Lohaboi Baradi Government Primary School in Bhaluka's Meduari Union around 2:30pm on Thursday, according to Upazila administrator (UNO) and Assistant Returning Officer Firoz Hossain.

Five of them entered a booth and began marking ballots while no polling staff were present inside, officials said. Footage from the centre’s CCTV system has since circulated widely on social media.

Polling was suspended for about 30 minutes before resuming.

The UNO said the CCTV clips are being analysed. Presiding Officer Md Hafiz Uddin has been relieved of duty, with Assistant Presiding Officer Abu Hena taking charge.

Some ballot papers were seized after the incident.

Authorities are yet to determine which candidate benefited.

District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman said several individuals faced punitive action once the matter came to light.

An inquiry is under way to establish which symbol was stamped, he added.

Apart from a handful of isolated disruptions, polling across the district concluded peacefully, with turnout estimated between 45 percent and 55 percent.
