A 17-month-old child with measles symptoms has died in the Sylhet Division, taking the death toll from the outbreak in the region to 66.

The child died while undergoing treatment at MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Sylhet Health Department Assistant Director Mohammad Noor Alam Shamim.

The deceased Khadija was the daughter of Sohag Mia of Madhabpur Upazila in Habiganj.

According to a report from the Sylhet Divisional Director's Office, 270 people with measles were undergoing treatment in various hospitals of the division symptoms from 8am on Sunday to 8am on Monday.

In addition, 55 more people were admitted to various hospitals with suspected measles cases over the period.

Since Jan 1 of this year, the Directorate General of Health Services has confirmed 165 measles cases in Sylhet through laboratory tests.

A total of 62 people with measles symptoms have died in the division, alongside four people with confirmed cases, the report said.
