The death of a 9-month-old infant has added to Sylhet’s growing measles toll, with dozens more patients admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours.

The total number of deaths from measles in the division now stands at 65.

The child died at Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Hospital some time between Friday and Saturday mornings, said Sylhet Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Assistant Director Mohammad Noore Alam Shamim.

The child has been identified as Saleh Ahmed from Kanaighat Upazila.

According to a report from the Sylhet Divisional Director's Office of the DGHS, 315 people were undergoing treatment with measles symptoms in different hospitals of the division for 24 hours to 8am on Saturday.

At the same time, 77 more people were admitted to different hospitals on suspected cases of measles.

Since Jan 1 of this year, the DGHS has confirmed measles infection in 165 people in Sylhet Division through laboratory tests.

A total of 61 people with measles symptoms have died in Sylhet so far. The report said that four people have died of confirmed measles.
