Bangladesh has recorded five more dengue deaths in a 24-hour count, alongside 1,484 hospitalisations across the country.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), four of the fatalities were recorded in the Dhaka North City Corporation and another in the Rangpur Division.
The government’s death toll has now reached 176, including 79 deaths in September -- the highest monthly figure so far this year.
The health directorate said on Thursday that 207 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North and 227 in Dhaka South in the 24 hours to 8am on Wednesday.
Outside the two city corporations, 190 were admitted elsewhere in the division.
The figures for other divisions were 211 in Barishal, 192 in Chattogram, 252 in Khulna, 64 in Mymensingh, 102 in Rajshahi, 34 in Rangpur, and four in Sylhet.
Another 1,513 patients were discharged in the same 24-hour period.
This year, 58,400 dengue patients have been hospitalised and 54,092 discharged.
The health directorate has tracked dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000.
In 2023, 321,179 patients were hospitalised and 1,705 died -- the highest figures recorded. Last year, more than 400 died and about 102,000 were diagnosed.
