Eight people have died with suspected measles symptoms and 55 new measles cases have been confirmed in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, marking the highest daily death toll recorded so far this month.
Before this, seven deaths had been reported on several other days in September.
According to a bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday, four people died in Dhaka Division and four more in Sylhet between 8am on Sunday and 8am on Monday.
The DGHS has been publishing measles-related data since Mar 15.
According to government figures, 100 people have so far died after being diagnosed with measles, while another 930 have died with suspected measles symptoms.
That brings the total number of deaths recorded over nearly six months to 1,030.
The Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of deaths with suspected measles symptoms, at 419, followed by Sylhet with 161.
The other deaths were recorded in Rajshahi, 93; Mymensingh, 77; Chattogram, 70; Barishal, 57; Khulna, 39; and Rangpur, 14.
The health directorate said another 1,177 people with suspected measles symptoms sought treatment at hospitals across the country in the past 24 hours. Of them, 1,093 were admitted.
The new admissions included 365 in Dhaka Division, 273 in Chattogram, 146 in Sylhet, 125 in Barishal, 88 in Khulna, 57 in Mymensingh, 23 in Rajshahi and 26 in Rangpur.
With the latest figures, 152,117 patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country so far. Of them, 146,400 have been discharged.
The number of suspected measles cases in the country has reached 172,720, while 20,124 cases have been confirmed.
The DGHS cautioned that not all patients who visit hospitals or those who remain outside hospitals are tested for measles. As a result, the exact number of people infected with measles cannot be determined.
