Seven more children have died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours, taking the nationwide toll from both confirmed and suspected cases 677 since Mar 15.

In its latest figures until Saturday morning, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 80 more people have been diagnosed with measles over the period.

Dhaka Division recorded six deaths while Barishal Division witnessed one fatality.

According to health authorities, 93 of the deaths since mid-March were confirmed cases. Additionally, 584 more suspected patients died over the period.

Child deaths account for the lion’s share of the tallies.

Like the daily toll, Dhaka Division also tops the list of overall fatalities as 274 people with symptoms and 567 confirmed patients died since Mar 15.

On the contrary, Rangpur Division is at the bottom with eight deaths from suspected cases.

The DGHS says 807 people showing measles symptoms have sought treatment at hospitals in the last 24 hours. Of them, 746 patients have been admitted.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected patients surged to 91,789 and confirmed cases to 10,949 in the last three months.
