In a media statement, it said the fines were slapped during raids led by Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) at Narayanganj’s Sonargaon and Gazipur’s Sreepur on Sunday.

Bashundhara Paper Mills at Sonargaon was fined Tk 1.5 million while Denim Mills Limited and Onetex Limited of Ha-Meem Group were fined Tk 1 million and Tk 1.1 million, respectively.

The statement said the paper mill’s unit number 2 did not renew the requisite environment certificate and was dumping wastes into the Meghna River using a faulty effluent treatment plant (ETP).

The other two factories were fined for polluting the environment and aquatic biodiversity of the area.

On Apr 30, DoE had fined Bashundhara Paper Mills Tk 2.5 million for polluting Meghna River.
