Navtej Singh Rehal had begun to think Bombay Rockers was nearing the end.
But the revival of the band’s hit song “Aari Aari” in “Dhurandhar 2” has brought the duo back into the spotlight and pushed him to start making music again, Hindustan Times reports.
When the first trailer for “Dhurandhar 2” was released earlier this year, “Aari Aari” featured prominently in the background.
The song’s return introduced the 2000s hit to a new generation and renewed interest in Bombay Rockers, formed by Navtej Singh Rehal, also known as Naf, and Thomas Sardorf.
“Well, I actually thought many years ago that Bombay Rockers was coming to an end, but ‘Dhurandhar’ has taught me differently. And I think we just got a really nice comeback after many years’ break,” Navtej said.
The revival also helped the song return to charts and social media, with renewed attention around the duo.
Navtej said the response had encouraged him to return to music.
“I’ve actually started making music again. So in a very, very short time, you’ll hear new music from me,” he said.
Bombay Rockers was formed in 2003 and became popular in the mid-2000s for its Punjabi-pop fusion sound.
The group’s most recent album was released in 2010. Their songs have also featured in films including “Rocky Handsome” and “Satellite Shankar”.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, “Dhurandhar 2” stars Ranveer Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, Danish Pandor and Sara Arjun.
