A garment businessman has filed a case against AJI Group Managing Director and film actor Ananta Jalil, his wife Afiea Nusrat Barsha, and three others on charges of “criminal breach of trust and fraud”.

The case was filed on Aug 20 at Savar Model Police Station by Elias Mia, owner of garments factory Rabbi Textile.

The other accused are Akram, Munir, and Kamrul, employees of AB Apparels Ltd, another company owned by Ananta, according to the plaintiff.

Two of the suspects, Akram and Munir, have secured bail after surrendering before a Dhaka magistrate court.

According to case files, the three accused took fabric from Rabbi Textile through bookings at different times. On Aug 4, 2019, they received 20,000 yards of fabric, but despite repeated assurances, no letter of credit (LC) was opened.

It alleged that on Ananta’s instructions, AB Apparels auditor Abdur Rahim forcibly kept the original delivery invoices from Rabbi Textile’s marketing officers and refused to return them.

The plaintiff’s staff were also allegedly denied entry, threatened, and intimidated when they went to demand payment.

The delivered fabric was worth $8,000, equivalent to about Tk 1 million, which the plaintiff claims remains unpaid.
