Daffodil International University (DIU) Founder and Board of Trustees Chairman Md Sabur Khan has joined university leaders from around the world as a distinguished panelist at CETYS University’s 65th anniversary celebration in Mexico.
Sabur spoke at a session titled “The Commitment of University Presidents to Student Success: IAUP Experiences” on Sept 21 at the Auditorio Paccar on CETYS University’s Mexicali Campus, according to a statement by DIU.
The panel brought together senior figures in higher education to discuss institutional leadership, student achievement and the changing responsibilities of university presidents.
Among the participants were Tomás D Morales, president-elect of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) and president emeritus of California State University, San Bernardino; Kakha Shengelia, rector of Caucasus University in Georgia; and Alejandro Cruzata, rector of Universidad Señor de Sipán in Peru. The session was moderated by Deborah Lieberman, president emerita of the University of La Verne and IAUP, the university added.
During the discussion, Sabur argued that student success should not end with an academic qualification.
Universities, he said, must equip students with practical skills, confidence, an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to create opportunities for themselves and others.
He also stressed the importance of creating academic environments where students can turn classroom knowledge into tangible real-world impact.
DIU said a central theme of his contribution was the need for universities to move “beyond degrees” by preparing graduates for leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and opportunity creation.
Sabur linked student achievement to the wider internationalisation of higher education. Rather than limiting global engagement to formal agreements and institutional partnerships, he said universities should turn those connections into joint projects, entrepreneurship initiatives, knowledge exchange, student opportunities and measurable outcomes.
His participation at the anniversary celebration, according to DIU, reflects the university’s continued focus on international collaboration, student-centred education, entrepreneurship, innovation and globally connected higher education.
