Dhaka, Feb 8 (bdnews24.com) – Bangladesh has unveiled 10,000 silver coins to mark the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Finance minister A M A Muhith, who is also the chairman of the World Cup organising committee, on Tuesday displayed the coins at the National Sports Council in the capital.
Bangladesh, together with India and Sri Lanka, is hosting the Cricket World Cup this time. It will host the opening ceremony of the gala event on February 17 and eight matches are scheduled to be played here.
Of the 10,000 coins, designed by K G Mostafa, 25 will be gifted to the International Cricket Council (ICC) for conducting tosses in the matches.
The 30-gram coin bears 'ICC World Cup Bangladesh 2011' on one side, and 'Bangladesh Bank' and 'Tk 10' on the other.
The coins bearing a face value of Tk 10 will be available at the commercial banks for Tk 10,000 each.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhith said: "This World Cup will be a big test for the nation. It's time to prove that we can."
The finance minister said that all preparations were close to end.
Among others, Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman, state minister for sports Ahad Ali Sarker and Bangladesh Cricket Board president A H M Mostafa Kamal were present at the function.
