On Wednesday, Shakib’s bid started at the base price of INR 1 crore. Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders raised the bid to INR 2 crore 80 lac, when DD stepped aside to let KKR get their man.
Shakib was a key player for KKR in their title race of 2012, with a decent record in his 15-match long IPL career. Despite that, Kolkata decided to put him in auction this time.
However, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal, with a base price of INR 50 lac, stayed unsold on the first day of the auction.
Tamim, although with Pune Warriors for the last two IPL seasons, has not played a single match.
Spinner Shohag Gazi also stayed unsold with a base price of INR 30 lac.
Yuvraj Singh drew the highest bid of 140 million rupees on the opening day.
