Nurul Islam appointed vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University

Prof Md Nurul Islam of Jahangirnagar University's Department of Geography and Environment has been appointed vice-chancellor of the university.

The Ministry of Education's Secondary and Higher Education Division issued a notification on Saturday announcing the appointment with the approval of the president, who serves as the chancellor of public universities.

According to the notification, Prof Nurul has been relieved of his position as vice-chancellor of Dhaka Central University and appointed vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University under Section 11(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Order, 1973.

The appointment will remain effective from the date he assumes office and continue for four years or until his retirement, whichever comes first.

Under the terms of the appointment, he will receive the same salary and allowances as his current position and will be entitled to other benefits associated with the office in accordance with existing regulations.

The notification was signed by Md Sultan Ahmed, assistant secretary of the Government General Universities Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division.

It also states that, as the university's chief executive officer, the vice-chancellor must remain on the university campus on a full-time basis.

The appointment may be cancelled at any time if the president considers it necessary, according to the notification.
