The Indiana University police department in Bloomington said in an emailed statement that 23 protesters were arrested there
The university announced the decision on Thursday evening after days of protests by the students who alleged Shariful has been acting as pro-VC and treasurer and holding three other offices of the university as well.
The protesters’ demands also included cancellation of the administrative decisions taken by Shariful.
In a notice, the university said Acting Treasurer Amanullah will act as VC until a regular vice-chancellor is appointed.
In another notice, it postponed admission tests that were scheduled for Nov 2.
