Dhaka, Feb 28 (BDNEWS) – The 5th private land phone operator (PSTN), Tele Barta Ltd, Tuesday launched its operation commercially with its brand name "Jubok Phone".
Post and Telecommunications minister Barrister Aminul Haque inaugurated the phone at a function at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference centre.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the present 10 per cent tele-density is the reflection of the country's economical growth and Bangladesh has become one of the attractive destinations for international telecom operators.
The total scenario of the sector would be changed with launching of the submarine cable soon, the minister added.
Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission Omar Faruque said that with such growth of the telecom sector, the teledensity would reach at 20 per cent by the end of 2006.
Terming the growth as "mobile or telephone flu" he said about 1 million telephone sets are being sold every month.
Hosain Al Masum, Chairman of the Tele Barta Ltd, said within the year, his company has targeted to subscribe 3 lakh customers across the country except Dhaka zone.
Bradley Holmes, Advisor to the Tele Barta, said, "we are here to connect people, lives, hearts and souls of Bangladesh."
ANM Golam Sarwar, Managing Director of the operator, also spoke on the occasion.
Tele Barta CEO Abu Sayeed said that Tele Barta's value added services include call conferencing, call barring, call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID, voice mail and short message service (SMS).
The company would expand its operation in Chittagong, Comilla, Feni, Khulna, Rajshahi, Bogra, Rangpur, Sylhet, Mymenshingh, Manikgang, Munshiganj, Narayangang, Norsingdi, Madhabdi and Dhamrai under four zones – Southeast, Northeast, Southwest and Northwest.
Marking the launching, Jubok Phone authorities have distributed its connection along with phone set to 11 educational institutes under its approved zones of the country.
