Daka, Aug 6 (bdnews24.com) — The Finance Minister has curtailed the revenue board Chairman's powers after he made some commissioner-level appointments without the minister's approval.
The Finance Ministry sent a letter signed by the minister to this effect on Monday to the Ministry of Public Administration.
"On last Thursday, the National Revenue Board Chairman made some appointments at the commissioner level, although I asked him not to take any steps," Finance Minister A M A Muhith said in the letter.
"I have only allowed him to change Board members," he said.
Muhith said he had also asked him not to alter the Board's working order.
"I have personally asked the Chairman to cancel these appointments. He is about to be transferred from the post soon. For his remaining time, he cannot take any important decisions," the letter read.
NBR Chairman Nasiruddin Ahmed's tenure, which underwent two extensions, will end on Oct 29.
The letter was also sent to Prime Minister's Adviser on Public Administration H T Imam, Internal Resources Secretary, NBR Chairman and NBR member Mohammad Fariduddin.
