Advisory: Repeating with correction in figure of total amount
Dhaka, 28 April (BDNEWS) – The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) Thursday approved 12 development projects in various sectors involving Tk 2,368 crore.
Of the total amount, Tk 1,450 crore is project assistance and the government will provide the remaining Tk 918 crore.
The ECNEC meeting was held in the Planning Commission under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Later, giving details, Finance and Planning Minister M Saifur Rahman said the projects approved by the meeting include rehabilitation of flood-damaged project, rural infrastructure development project in eastern areas and secondary towns integrated flood protection project, phase-2.
These three projects would cost over Tk 1,764 crore, of which Tk 1,356 crore are project assistance.
Other projects approved by the ECNEC include infrastructure development of Barisal city corporation at a cost of Tk 31.75 crore, Naogaon-Atrai-Natore road construction at a cost of Tk 50 crore, development of flood damaged roads, drain and dumping ground of Sylhet city at a cost of Tk 50 crore, modernisation and installation of equipment for inland water transport at a cost of Tk 26.71 crore, environment development project at a cost of Tk 62 crore and post-flood water supply at flood affected districts at a cost of Tk 42.46 crore.
The government will provide full amount to Muhuri-Kohua flood control and irrigation project to be implemented at a cost of Tk 150.75 crore and rain water preservation of Barendra and irrigation project there by Tk 141.67 crore.
LGRD and cooperatives minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, health and family welfare minister Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, industries minister Motiur Rahman Nizami, communications minister Nazmul Huda, post and telecommunications minister Aminul Haq, education minister Dr M Osman Farruk, state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar, state minister for finance and planning Anwarul Kabir Talukdar and state minister for agriculture Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir were present at the meeting.
About Prime Minister's directives, Saifur said the PM has asked to remove inefficiency and corruption to implement these projects.
He hopes that with the completion of these projects, the process of development in Bangladesh will be accelerated which will lead to improve living conditions and socio-economic uplift of the people.
