Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) has wrapped up its two-day International Conference on Economics, Business and Technology Management 2025 (ICEBTM 2025) at The Westin Dhaka.
The university said in a media statement on Sunday that the event, organised by its School of Business and Entrepreneurship, ended with an award and closing ceremony attended by senior leaders from academia and industry.
It added that awards were presented to six best papers of the conference.
The statement said Didar A Husain, chairman of IUB’s Board of Trustees; Vice-Chancellor M Tamim; Pro-Vice Chancellor Daniel W Lund; Acting Dean of SBE Raisul Awal Mahmud; Conference General Chair Md Mamun Habib; and AKM Shahnawaj, managing director (Current Charge), Dhaka Bank PLC, spoke at the closing ceremony.
IUB Trustee Wajid Ali Khan Panni, Trustee Husne Ara Ali, and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan were also in attendance.
At the closing ceremony, Mamun said: “We hope to organise thematic student research symposiums every year from now on and a major international conference like ICEBTM every two years.
“IUB has recently launched the Advancing Undergraduate Research Aspirations [AURA] initiative, which I believe will help develop a culture of research among our students and eventually help us organise these series of symposiums and conferences.”
Keynote papers on the second day were presented by Rajah Rasiah of the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and Ahmad Ahsan, director of the Policy Research Institute.
The session was chaired by Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), and Ben Bvepfepfe, Leeds Trinity University & CILT, UK.
Industry and academia leaders participated in several “Industry Talk” and “Academia-Industry Discussion” sessions, the statement noted.
Speakers from universities have included MM Nurul Absar, vice-chancellor of Chittagong Independent University; Prof Yousuf Mahbubul Islam of Southeast University; Prof Shahjahan Khan of Asian University Bangladesh; AKM Waresul Karim of North South University; Nazrul Islam of IUB; Mahbubur Rahman of NSU; Prof Jonathan Liu of Manchester Business School UK; Derek Westfall of Oregon State University USA; Md Sardar, Akhtar Hossain of UCSI University Malaysia; Prof Maniam Kaliannan of University of Nottingham Malaysia, Ruhul A Salim of Curtin University Australia and Ferdous Saleheen of Sharjah Maritime Academy UAE.
Industry representatives included Niaz Rahim, group director of Rahimafrooz Group; ASM Mainuddin Monem, CEO and managing director of Abdul Monem Group; Arif Dowla, managing director, ACI PLC; Emeka Henry Egeson (Canada); Rezwanul Kabir, Energypac; Kabir Ahmed, BAFFA; and A Gafur, director, Abdul Monem Economic Zone Limited.
The statement said that three parallel sessions were held where faculty members, researchers and students from home and abroad have presented 106 research papers and 12 posters.
A special discussion titled “Meet The Journal Editors” also taken place where paper authors have interacted with journal editors for potential publication.
It added that more than 300 academics, researchers, students and industry figures from over 12 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia, India, Poland and the UAE, took part in the conference.
