Three crude bombs have exploded in front of a house, in front of a school, and on the side of a road in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj Upazila.

Although the loud noise stirred panic in the area, no casualties or major damage were reported.

The explosions occurred in the span of four to five minutes at the Upazila Sadar’s Gopalcharan around 4:30am on Sunday, said Sundarganj Police Station chief Shahin Mohammad Amanullah.

Police said the first explosion occurred near the house of Abu Solaiman Sarkar Saja, assistant professor at Sundarganj DW Government College. Two minutes later, an explosion occurred in front of Gopalcharan High School, and the third afterwards on the road south of the school.

People in the vicinity left their houses after hearing the loud noises.

The incident was later reported to police.

Solaiman said, "Before dawn prayers, there was a loud noise outside my house. After a while, we heard two more loud sounds near the school and on the road south of it. We were terrified."

He said, "I heard the noise, left the house, and saw my neighbours gathering outside. Later, the police came and took away the bomb’s remains."

Police official Shahin said the perpetrators had yet to be confirmed, but investigations are under way to identify them.
