Chittagong, Nov 17 (bdnews24.com) – A Chittagong court has resumed hearing in the case filed over the Mirsarai tragedy that claimed 45 lives, mostly students.
District senior judicial magistrate Farida Yasmin recorded testimonies of 18 witnesses on Thursday and fixed Nov 20 for the next hearing.
Public prosecutor Abul Hashem told bdnews24.com that there were 30 witnesses in the case.
In one of the worst tragedies in Bangladesh's history, 44 school students and another one were killed in a road accident at Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong on July 11.
The accident took place when a mini-truck, carrying them back from a football match, lost its control while giving way to a three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction on the link road between Abu Toarb Bazar and Borotakia and flipped over into a ditch.
Chairman of Mayani union council Kabir Ahmed Nizam filed a case with Mirsarai Police Station the same night, accusing Mofiz, who was behind the wheels of the truck.
Mofiz was arrested from Kawnia area of Barisal town on July 21.
