Special measures have been put in place to tighten security around the jailhouse on Nazimuddin Road.
Dhaka-5 Special Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman was expected to start the trial proceedings in the jailhouse on Wednesday.
Khaleda has been kept as the lone inmate in a room on the first floor of the prison.
The BNP chief has been serving time in prison after being sentenced to five years in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Feb 8.
As part of the security measures, police barred traffic on the road in front of the prison and shut shops nearby.
Although the movement of vehicles was not stopped at the Bakshibazar intersection, at least 30 police personnel were deployed there since morning.
At Chawkbazar and Begum Bazar intersections, and Abul Hasnat Road, the law enforcement agencies were also deployed. Pedestrians were being searched in different places. Fire service vehicles near the jailhouse have been kept ready.
“Police have usually taken all kinds of security measures," said Sanowar Hossain, an assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
On Tuesday, the government issued a notice on the trial of Khaleda inside the jailhouse in the graft case, citing security reasons.
Until now, judge Md Akhtaruzzaman was hearing the case at the Dhaka Special Court No. 5, set up next to the Alia Madrasa at Bakshibazar.
The ACC on Aug 8, 2010 prosecuted Khaleda and four others in the case accusing them of embezzling Tk 31.54 million from the trust.
The others accused in the case are Khaleda’s former political secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former personal assistant Ziaul Islam Munna, who is now the acting director (naval security and traffic) of BIWTA, and former Dhaka City mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s personal assistant Monirul Islam Khan.
The ruling Awami League leaders blame the defence for delaying the trial while the BNP leaders allege the government orchestrated the trial for political gains.
