Sagar-Runi murder accused Tanvir released from jail

Prison authorities have released Md Tanvir Rahman, who was arrested over the 2012 murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi, following a High Court bail order.

Senior Jail Superintendent of Kasimpur High Security Prison Md Mizanur Rahman said they had released him around 11.30am Thursday after examining his bail documents.

On Feb 11, 2012, Maasranga Television News Editor Sagar Sarowar and ATN Bangla Senior Reporter Meherun Runi were brutally murdered in their West Rajabazar rented apartment in capital Dhaka.

Eight months later, on Oct 10, 2012, police arrested seven including, Tanvir Rahman, a 'family friend' of the murdered couple.

He had been in jail since then. On Dec 2, the High Court granted him bail.
