Deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (south) Munirul Islam told bdnews24.com that Hassan Syed was arrested around 2:15pm on Wednesday from one of his relatives' residence at Mugdha in the city.
Rumana Manzur, assistant professor of the International Relations department, was severely assaulted allegedly by her husband on June 5 at her father's residence at Dhanmondi.
She was later admitted to LabAid Hospital.
Syed had been on the run since then.
Father of the victim Manzur Hossain, a retired army personnel, filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station the following day.
