“I will answer all your questions by holding a press conference in a day or two. I’ll explain my position,” he told newspersons on Monday.
He said this in the face of a volley of questions as he emerged from the High Court after securing a month’s anticipatory bail in a case filed by Happy.
Rubel had been silent ever since the actress lodged a case against him on Saturday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with the Mirpur police for cheating on her.
The case was filed a day after the cricketer registered a general diary with police, fearing that Happy might blackmail him.
His lawyer SM Rezaul Karim said they would face ‘all conspiracy’ legally.
The row between the cricketer and actress took the social media by storm.
The heroine of a recent Bangla movie, Happy, 21, said despite filing the case, she wanted him as her husband.
“I still love Rubel. Everything will be alright if we can reach an understanding. The case will be withdrawn if he marries me,” she told bdnews24.com on Sunday night.
“If he doesn’t, he has to suffer the punishment for cheating on a woman,” she added.
Rubel’s another lawyer Moniruzzaman Asad told reporters on Monday the cricketer got in touch with Happy on Facebook 10 months ago.
“Later she talked to Rubel as a fan. Recently Rubel understood that she was trying to blackmail him. That’s why he filed the general diary,” he added.
“The girl was threatening (the cricketer) in different ways for last couple of days. She was trying to say that she will sue Rubel unless he marries her.”
Rubel feared in the GD that the actress might harm him ‘through intimidation’
A day after the GD, Happy sued the pacer claiming that he had promised to marry her and the two had intimate relationship for nine months.
"Rubel got involved with another girl while talks about our marriage were on. He avoided me each time I tried to talk about it," she told bdnews24.com.
Mirpur Police Station OC Salahuddin said Happy had frequented Rubel's apartment near the Commerce College in Mirpur.
Happy, studying BBA at a private university, was taken to police's Victim Support Centre after she filed the complaint on Saturday.
She returned home on Sunday after a medical test was done at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital to examine if her claim on intimate relations with the cricketer was genuine.
The cricketer’s lawyer Karim said: “(Rubel) sensed the conspiracy beforehand. That’s why he filed a GD. The fear has been proved genuine through the case. This case is meant for harassing him,” he said.
Karim said the bench of Justices Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury granted the cricketer bail after hearing a plea.
He will have to get extension of the bail from the trial court after it expires, he added.
During the bail hearing, Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah said: “He (Rubel) is a cricketer. He should play cricket. He should not play with the emotion of women.”
