Engine on fire: Sylhet's train link snaps

The railway communications were back on around 8pm on Friday, Noaparha Station Master Abu Sayeed said.

Three carriages of inter-city Parabat Express jumped off the rails around 10am at Habiganj's Noaparha Railway Station at Madhabpur Upazila following the fire, said Shayestaganj Station Master Mofazzul Hossain.

Fire-fighting units from Madhabpur and Shayestaganj rushed to the spot and put out the fire after two hours.

Passengers had managed to get off the train hastily after the fire broke out and carriages derailed. Thirty of them were injured.

Noaparha Station Master Sayeed said the trains that had stranded after the incident started for their destinations after a relief train from Akhaurha recovered the derailed coaches around 8am.

Madhabpur Fire Service Team Leader Syed Asaduzzaman said the damage caused by the fire was yet to be determined.
