Raha’s body to be exhumed

Model Sumaiya Azgar Raha’s remains will be exhumed from her grave for an autopsy under the supervision of Executive Magistrate Shamima Akhtar Shanti.

The Lux Channel I Superstar hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room on Mar 22.

Dhaka’s Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Abul Fazal Meer bestowed the responsibility on Shanti following a plea from Mohammadpur Police Sub-Inspector Anwar Hossain.

However, it is not known when the Executive Magistrate will go to Azimpur graveyard for the exhumation.

SI Anwar, Investigating Officer in the case, submitted a plea for an autopsy to Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court on Monday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Jainab Begum ordered that the case documents to be sent to the Dhaka District Magistrate for necessary measures.

“Raha’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room on Mar 22. She lived with her parents at their house in Mohammadpur’s Chan Mia Housing. Her father had buried her in Azimpur graveyard without informing the local law enforcers of her death,” the plea read.

However, Raha’s father Ali Azgar filed a case of ‘unnatural death’ at Mohammadpur Police Station on Sunday night.

Raha returned to her home on Friday night with two of her friends ‘Oishik’ and ‘Lamia’. She supposedly told her mother that she was not feeling well. Raha went to sleep saying she felt better after her mother made her lemonade, the case read.

Her family members knocked on her door to wake her up in the morning. Getting no response, they broke in to find her body hanging from the ceiling fan.
