Dhaka, May 8 (bdnews24.com) – Police beefed up security around Sheikh Hasina's Sudha Sadan home Tuesday, a day after the Awami League chief returned home from abroad.
Three platoons of police led by three assistant commissioners have been deployed there.
Hasina's personal assistant Dr Hasan Mahmud told reporters: "Security arrangements have been tightened. Earlier there was a two-tier barricade, now it has three tiers."
He said there was no bar on visitors to meet the former prime minister, but they cannot see her in groups because of the state of emergency.
Party leaders and workers coming to meet their leader have faced police obstructions.
The police briefly stopped AL Sylhet city unit general secretary Mesbahuddin Siraj and UK unit general secretary Shafique Ahmed Chowdhury at the checkpoint.
The three were allowed in only after Dr Hasan came forward to receive them.
Hasan told reporters that the people in charge of security were new. "It seems there is a lack of coordination," he said.
Asked whether there was any restriction on Hasina's movement, Dr Hasan said, "There is no restriction. She has no schedule to go out today (Tuesday)."
