The two, identified as Md Mozahidul Islam and Md Ariful Islam Solaiman alias Arafat, have been arrested by the Detective Branch.

Police said they belonged to the banned militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team.

Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam said they were held from the capital’s Kamrangirchar on Monday night with sharp weapons and jihadi literatures in their possession.

“They had come to Kamrangichar at the instruction of a top leader to attend a meeting. The arrests were made around 9:30pm following a tip-off,” he told the media on Tuesday.

Islam, who heads the counter-terrorism and transnational crime unit, said that the duo were involved in ‘collecting funds and doing propaganda’ for the militant outfit.

They have been booked under the Antiterrorism Act, added the senior police officer.
