Abul Kalam Azad told bdnews24.com of the decision on Tuesday night.
He said the Prime Minister will leave for New York by the end of the month.
“She will address the General Assembly to uphold the government successes,” he said.
On Monday, several news outlets ran reports quoting various sources including the foreign ministry that Hasina had cancelled her New York trip.
However, no one, including the Prime Minister’s Office, could confirm the information to bdnews24.com when contacted.
Earlier in the day, the BNP had claimed the Prime Minister had ‘cancelled’ her visit to the UN to avoid facing questions from world leaders over the forthcoming national election in Bangladesh.
The Press Secretary said: “The Prime Minister will hold separate meetings with world leaders there (NY).”
According to the UN website, the 68th session will commence on Sept 18. A general debate on ‘Post-2015 Development Agenda: Setting the Stage’ will start on Sept 24 and will end on Oct 2.
Indian newspapers had run reports that Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would hold a meeting in New York.
