Mamata called on the prime minister Saturday evening at the president's residence Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Hasina is staying during her four-day state visit to the neighbouring country.
They also discussed sharing the water of the common rivers, trans-boundary water management and other bilateral issues, the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury told the media after the meeting.
An agreement on Teesta was not expected during the current visit by PM Hasina, but officials in the Modi government were working closely with West Bengal officials to find common ground to get Chief Minister Mamata to agree to the deal that was first worked out during former PM Manmohan Singh's visit to Dhaka.
Meeting Hasina earlier in the day, Modi said he believed an 'early solution' to the problem was possible, promising to break the tangle.
Secretary Kamal did not clear whether there was any progress in reaching an agreement on sharing the water of the Teesta.
He said the West Bengal chief minister also emphasised strengthening cooperation to help Bangladesh meet its demand for power.
