It also expressed ‘dismay and shock’ at the incident.
The ruling party’s Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Sunday said Parliament may take actions against the MP over the incident.
“The incident is lamentable, unwanted and unexpected,” he said of the alleged attack.
Hanif said a decision could be taken about the MP if the matter was discussed at the Central Working Committee meeting.
Rony had allegedly attacked two journalists of private Independent TV on Saturday as they went to his office to interview him.
He was seen throwing punches and kicks at the newsmen in a video footage.
The MP from Patuakhali-3 constituency had offered apologies but rejected his association with the incident.
On Sunday, a group of senior journalists urged everyone to boycott him.
“Rony is not a leader of the ruling party, he is merely an Awami League-endorsed MP,” Hanif said.
“Parliament can take actions against him.”
