"It'll be possible to transport up to 60,000 passengers during this time," Railways East General Manager Md Mozammel Haq said on Friday.
The vacation of all railway officials has also been cancelled.
He said special trains would be introduced and 72 cars added to the trains to transport holidaymakers in the region.
Advanced train tickets for Oct 1 have gone on sale but people are not queuing up in long lines to get them at Chittagong Railway Station.
Station Manager Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad said they planned to sell 3,735 tickets for eight inter-city trains daily.
Two special trains will run on the Chittagong-Chandpur route daily from Oct 3 to 5.
Asked about the slow pace of ticket sale, Azad explained that those interested to purchase tickets have to fill out a form first.
"We are selling tickets only after verifying the information on the forms," he said adding that the "slow process" was ensuring clarity in sale.
Every year a large number of tickets go on sale on the black market. The railway authorities have taken precautions this time.
"We are monitoring the situation with 30 hidden cameras," Azad said. "A divisional officer has been assigned to each ticket counter."
