Pabna Sadar Police Station OC Kazi Haniful Islam said on Thursday no complaints had been lodged with the station.
But two people were arrested for their suspected involvement in the attack, he told bdnews24.com.
“Jalal Uddin and Tufan Hossain, two political science teachers at the college, were arrested on Monday night,” he said.
“They have given out some surprising information, which we cannot disclose now for the sake of the investigation.”
Police were conducting drives to arrest the attackers, the OC said.
On Sunday morning, unknown assailants stabbed Principal Mannan in front of Central Girl’s School in Pabna town.
Locals admitted him to Pabna Medical College and Hospital. On the same day, he was flown to Dhaka’s Apollo Hospital.
Mannan, who is still under treatment at the Apollo, told bdnews24.com the attack was a result of conflict involving the college.
“Everyone knows I had a conflict with Pabna Zila Parishad Administrator Saidul Haque Chunnu,” he said.
He said none of his family members were in Pabna, so a case could not be filed.
His wife Nasima Akhtar Rita demanded a quick investigation and proper trial of the attackers.
“We had no idea people could do such terrible things for their political interests,” he said.
She said the professor was not yet out of danger.
Saidul Haque Chunnu said he had no personal conflict with Mannan and denied allegations of the attack.
“I have followed legal means in the conflict over the college,” he said.
“In my long political career, there have never been any such allegations.”
