She came up with the assurance the family of slain lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar met the prime minister at Ganabhaban.
A car carrying Sarkar’s wife Archana Sarkar and others entered her official residence in a car around 6:30pm.
The couple’s daughters Sejunti Sarkar, Sushmita Sarkar, Swati Sarkar and Shaptarshi Sarkar, sons-in-law Bijay Kumar Pal, Ranjit Debnath and Amit Singha, and granddaughter Roudeshi Sarkar were also present.
They drove out around 8pm.
The prime minister's special assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil who briefed reporters on the meeting said the sight of the wife of Chandan Sarker aroused the emotions in Hasina and she hugged her.
"After hearing the news I directed the law-enforcing agencies to act quickly to identify and arrest the culprits after proper investigation," the prime minister was quoted by Shakil as telling the family.
She referred to the removal of the senior officials of the Narayanganj district administration, RAB and police and remarked that the government did not simply watched on as the events unfolded.
Archana Sarkar said they had no doubts in their mind that the prime minister could punish the perpetrators and thanked her for the measures taken, according to Shakil.
"It is only possible for you to ensure the justice," the widow was quoted as saying after pointing out Hasina personally knew how painful it was to lose close relatives.
Archana said although her husband was a lawyer, he was also a poet.
Shakil said she handed two poetry books to the prime minister.
Hasina said the trial and punishment of those who killed an innocent man like Chandan Sarkar would be ensured.
The prime minister is also scheduled to meet on Wednesday the family of murdered Narayanganj City Councillor Nazrul Islam, who was abducted on the same day as Sarkar.
Sunday’s meeting took place after the High Court earlier in the day ordered arrest of the three former RAB officers who allegedly are involved in the abduction and murder of seven people including Sarkar.
The family while deposing before the government’s investigation committee on Saturday had demanded arrest of the three officers.
They claimed these officials had played major role in killing the seven.
On Sunday, the court issued the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Sarkar’s son-in-law Bijay Kumar Pal and two others.
Sarkar, Awami League supporter Nazrul and five others were abducted on Apr 27.
Nazrul and his four aides were whisked away after leaving the Narayanganj court premises that day. Sarkar and his driver ‘Ibrahim’, who left the court right after them, were also abducted around the same time.
Dead bodies of all of them were found floating on the Shitalakhyya River in Narayanganj over two days on April 30 and May 1.
Sarkar’s family suspects that he and Ibrahim were killed because they witnessed Nazrul’s abduction.
