Dhaka, Jun 26 (bdnews24.com ) -- General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan has been officially adorned with the badge of the Chief of Army Staff.
Navy chief Vice Admiral ZU Ahmed and Air Force head Air Marshal Muhammad Enamul Bari decorated Karim with the badge in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a ceremony at her office on Tuesday morning.
Hasina, also in charge of the Ministry of Defence, congratulated the newly appointed Army Chief, who took the charge on Monday.
She mentioned steps her government has taken to strengthen the armed forces, her Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told reporters.
PM's Advisor on Public Administration H T Imam, Advisor on Defence Affairs Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Sheikh M Wahid Uz Zaman, PMO secretary Mollah Wahiduzzaman, Defence Secretary Khandakar Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Chief of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Major General Monjur Ahmed (retd), PM's Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and Director General of Special Security Force (SSF) Major General Choudhuri Hasan Sarwardi were present, among others, at the programme.
General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan was appointed the new Chief of Army Staff on Jun 7.
The military's press wing had said in a media statement Gen Bhuiyan officially took over the command of Bangladesh Army from Gen Abdul Mubeen on Monady.
Gen Mubeen had been in charge since Jun 15, 2009.
Gen Bhuiyan was an infantry officer and Quarter Master General before the latest appointment
A cadet of the 3rd BMA Short Course, Gen Bhuiyan went to Faujdarhat Cadet College and was commissioned in the army in Nov 1976. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in May 2010.
