Dhaka, Aug 27 (bdnews24.com)—Musa Ibrahim, the first Bangladeshi to summit Mount Everest, has been made tourism ambassador of Bangladesh for the next two years.
Tourism minister Ghulam Muhammed Quader made the announcement from a programme on Saturday, where he assured the mountaineer of all assistance.
"Bangladesh has a great potential in tourism. As Musa will visit many countries in his next expedition, he'll be able to convey invitations to Bangladesh properly.
"We've 400,000 tourists coming every year and we've a target to make it a million," he said at the National Press Club.
Musa and two others in his team will start their next mission 'Seven Summit' on Sept 2 with the Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania, 19324 feet).
He conquered the Mount Everest in May last year.
He told bdnews24.com: "I've been made ambassador of Bangladesh's tourism until 2013 when our expedition will end."
"It's mainly a series of summiting the highest mountains of the seven continents and hoist the flag of Bangladesh at the top," the mountaineer said at the programme.
The other members of his team are North South University teacher Neaz Morshed Patwari and veteran adventurer M A Sattar.
The next missions to be conducted following the expedition of Africa's highest mountain are Aconcagua (South America, 22835 feet), Mount McKinley (North America, 20320 feet), Mount Elbrus (Europe, 18510 feet), Mount Vinson (Antarctica, 16067 feet) and Carstensz Pyramid (Oceania, 16023 feet).
Among others, Daily Prothom Alo deputy editor Anisul Huq, Summit Group director Farid Khan and JAN Associates CEO Abdullah H Kafi also spoke at the press briefing.
