Out of the 12 ferries, two broke down one after another due to the rough weather on Wednesday night.
Only two Ro-Ro ferries were operating on the busy river route until 11pm. But they could also break down anytime, Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Mawa office Md Shafiqul Islam told bdnews24.com.
Operation of launches and other water vessels also remained suspended on the route, creating severe traffic congestions on both banks of the Padma river.
