Dhaka, June 3 (bdnews24.com)—Former minister and Jatiya Party leader Anwar Hossain Manju, sentenced to total of 32 years in a raft of cases, was freed on bail at BIRDEM Hospital in the capital on Wednesday.
Dhaka Central Jail official Bazlur Rashid said prison guards were removed from his hospital cabin just before 6pm, and family and friends were being allowed to visit Manju who was in undergoing heart treatment.
Manju, chairman of one of the major JP factions, secured bail from the High Court on May 28 in the last of four cases in which he has been convicted.
The politician faces sentences totalling 32 years in prison in the four cases.
He surrendered to a trial court and was sent to jail on May 6.
