Mancha supporters marched with sticks amidst a Dhaka blockade by Hifazat supporters. Most of the capital’s road links were apparently cut off from rest of the country due to the blockade.
Around 11:00am, the Chittagong-based Islamists were granted permission to hold a 3:00pm rally in the afternoon at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar.
Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker led the procession that was brought out from Shahbagh around 12:00 noon, bdnews24.com Correspondent at scene reported. More than a hundred people were in the procession.
However, other student organisations did not participate in the procession.
“They have separate programmes," Sarker said.
The Mancha spokesperson had called for this procession on Saturday.
Though the programme was scheduled to begin at 10:00am, bdnews24.com Correspondent reported that the procession began around noon because of low attendance.
The procession encircled TSC, Nilkhet, Shahbagh, Ruposhi Bangla and back to Shahbagh.
A cultural programme on the theme of protesting against 'evil forces' began soon and was scheduled to continue for rest of the day.
