The Malaysian Prime Minister’s Special Envoy S Samy Vellu expressed the interest when he called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.
Hasina arrived in Kuala Lumpur earlier in the day on a three-day visit. Vellu met her at her suite in Hotel Grand Hyatt around 7:30pm local time.
After the meeting, Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque told reporters that they discussed bilateral issues including Malaysian investment in Bangladesh, particularly in large-scale housing projects and infrastructure development.
He said the prime minister had raised the issue of a housing project at Kamrangirchar for low-income people.
Samy Vellu said he would submit a technical report to Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, said Haque.
The foreign secretary expressed the hope that Malaysia would construct a number of multi-storey buildings under the housing project and the flats would be low-cost.
He said that his country was interested in investing in Bangladesh’s housing sector, but added “that issue would be discussed later”.
