Sylhet, Jan 7 (bdnews24.com) – Dewan Ahmed Kabir Chowdhury, a 1952 Language Movement veteran and an entrepreneur, died Monday of heart diseases. He was 76.
Kabir Chowdhury was one of the first Dhaka University students to have broken through the police cordon during the student protest on Feb 21, 1952. He was severely injured in police beating.
He was born to Dewan Abdur Rahim Chowdhury, a public prosecutor, and Jubeda Rahim Chowdhury, a women rights activist, in 1931 in Sylhet.
His mother had also joined the Language Movement against the Pakistan government.
He fell sick at his Sylhet home Saturday and was rushed to the Apollo Hospital in Dhaka where he died at noon.
He will be buried at the burial ground on the premises of saint Shahjalal's shrine after noon prayers.
He has two sons and a daughter and left behind scores of admirers.
