Police have been granted five days to interrogate six suspects, including Shirajganj Awami League General Secretary and Shahjadpur Municipal Mayor Halimul Hoque Miru, over the murder of journalist Abdul Hakim Shimul.

The remand was granted by Shahjadpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque after hearings on Monday.
Separate hearings were held for the murder case and the case over the assault of Chhatra Leage leader Bijoy Mahmud, said Case Investigation Officer and Shahjadpur Inspector Monirul Islam.
“Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque only granted the five-day remand for the questioning of Miru, his brothers Mintu and Pintu, and three others over the murder case.”
Shimul, the Shahjadpur correspondent for Bangla daily 'Dainik Samakal', was shot in the eye during a skirmish between two factions of the ruling party's Sirajganj unit on Feb 2.
He passed away while in hospital on Feb 3.
Police said the bullet that killed him was fired from Miru’s shotgun.
After the incident Shimul’s wife named Miru and 18 others in a murder case. Twenty to twenty five other unidentified suspects were accused in the case.
Shahin has been arrested as a suspect, Inspector Monirul had said. Altogetherf eight persons have been arrested so far over the murder.
Remand had been requested for all eight arrested suspects, but was only granted for six, said Investigation Officer Monirul.
“Police had petitioned for a week-long remand for Mintu and Pintu over the assault on Bijoy Mahmud, but the request was not granted.”
Lawyer Rafiqul Islam Sarkar represented the defence during the hearing. The prosecution in the two cases was jointly represented by Abul Kashem, Abdul Aziz, Jel Haque and Mashiur Rahman.
